Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to cherish the strong foundation we stand on. Over the years, the ISG has played an instrumental role in promoting excellence in research, education and patient care. We are proud that it has been continually serving as a beacon of knowledge dissemination. We owe our gratitude to the dedication of past leaders, whose efforts have helped the ISG to grow into a supportive and vibrant community. The Young Clinicians Program (YCP) is an initiative of Indian Society of Gastroenterology that funds 70-80 first-year DM/DNB registered trainees all across India to participate in three days of specialized educational program. The program format includes basics in research methodology, concept making lectures in basic sciences, and writing and presentation skills. Young Clinician Program has been held successfully for the past eleven consecutive years.
In 2022, ISG had decided to launch new program with the objective of training them on the uniform practice of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The focus of this program is to discuss the Best Practice Guidelines on various common GI, liver, and pancreato-biliary diseases.
In 2008, ISG had decided to launch national training programs directed specifically to trainees in Gastroenterology. To address a long-felt need to revitalize training in GE in India and to create a platform for making the standards uniform across the country. The GYM program is targeted for exam going DM and DNB students. The aim is to expose them to senior teachers and potential examiners, and help them hone the knowledge and skills that are specifically expected during examinations.
Encouraged by the training programs organized by WGO, the Train the Trainers (TTT) program is a recent initiative of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology that funds 25 consultants across India. TTT is a four-day specialized educational program.
The COVID-19 pandemic led the world to explore new innovative ways of imparting education through online seminars and courses. Since all the teaching institutions suspended their academic activities, the ISG introduced a series of web-based Master Class lectures and panel discussions on the relevant topics for GI trainees, practicing gastroenterologists, and hepatologists.
